Rwanda Bird Atlas - UPDATE

Here's an update on where we are with records and numbers of species etc since we kicked off (albeit slowly) in August 2009.

I also want to use this opportunity to thank the small band of people who have and continue to provide records – and to encourage those haven’t provided any yet to send them through please. If you don’t have the Proforma spreadsheets for observer submission, let me know and I’ll send them through.

Below follows a breakdown of the records received and processed to date;

Total Records: 4,479

Total Species: 450 (this is fantastic! – about 2/3rds of the country list)

Included in these records, we also have breeding records;

Total Breeding Records: 375 In respect of species: 138

Breeding records consist of:

1. Mating/display (incl. Species in breeding plumage): 58 records i.r.o. 26 species

2. Nesting Activity: 81 records i.r.o. 47 species

3. Eggs in Nest: 4 records i.r.o. 4 species

4. Chicks in Nest: 38 records i.r.o. 19 species

5. Fledgling/immature (has left the nest): 202 records i.r.o. 103 species

As for country coverage we’re unfortunately not doing that well yet with the majority of records from the North-west, South-east and South-west of the country. Kigali records pretty much account for most central records.

If this is what we find with such low coverage, I can’t wait to see what we’ll get from wider coverage.

Thanks again all

Interesting statistics, Marcell! The total of 450 species recorded is definitely fantastic, great job!
