Hi All! So I’m back from an absolutely awesome trip to Kruger!!  (btw, Joel?  Did we wave at each other between Satara and Olifants on Sunday afternoon?  Giggle) We knew it was going to be a good trip when we arrived on the Malelane Gate Bridge and got a Purple Heron, Goliath Heron and a Reed Comorant for my sister.   Other nice birds through the weekend included:  Gabar Goshawk (with picture and a new lifer for me!), Ground Hornbill, Secretary Bird (new lifer for me), Goldentailed Woodpecker (another new one for me), Yellow Breasted Apalis, Black Bellied Bustard, Senegal Lapwing and then the usual suspects.  A lot of Lilac Breasted Rollers, Swainsons Francolins, Natal Francolins, Crested Francolins and Helmeted Guinaefowl.  We also got good sightings of Giant Eagle Owl and the little Scops at Afsaal was sitting there in all his little glory!  I got a load of photos and am in the process of downloading them.  I promise as soon as I have half a chance I will post some pics here.

I must say it was a really good trip with a cheetah and some Sable to add to the recipe of a super duper time!  On an animal note:  I was genuinely charged by an elephant who took a dislike to my lil car and proceeded to chase us down the road for about 50 seconds after almost slamming into the back of it as I hightailed it outta there as fast as it could take us.. shock .. note to self:  when an elephant does NOT trumpet or flap its ears it means SERIOUS business...

I still have to go through some of the photos and I may have forgot some of the birds (horror!!) so don’t think this is the end of the kruger trip.  grin My sister got 35 new ticks and I got 3 which takes my total to 340! Happy Birding Laine
