Well yesterday it rained....and rained...and rained...and rained! Not great for photogrphy but absolutely awesome to see an arid region receive so much water although definitely not seasonal rain!

rain in the Kalahari

Charlie and I went for a drive in the morning and were soon greeted with the sighting of a leopard, peering out above the yellow grass on te dunes. It seemed to be overly curious about the cars which stopped to watch it.

Of course we spotted Gemsbok, Wildebeest and Springbok, many of which Imust admit looked rather uncomfortable in the constant rain. Every so often the sun would break through the rain clouds and present us with the kind of light on the Kalahari can!

Every single creature we encountered would give a healthy shake while we watched it, trying to dispel the drenching rain. A little Chestnut-vented Titbabbler looked so soggy we actually felt sorry for it!

A jackal lay in the riverbed, waiting out the rain before it rose and walked a little further, shaking itself vigoursly before lying down again.

We spotted a Greater Kestrel on the dunes...

But every rainy day has its reward....

I forgot to say we saw 4 young cheetah walking along the ridge of a dune....we had just finished watching the soaked titbabbler, when we looked up and saw the cheetah! And we also spotted a very "lost" Comb Duck swimming in a rather small watering hole!
