Introduction from Richard Taylor

Hi,
Gwen has asked me to contribute to the Blog. This is my first Blog entry ever. Thanks Gwen.
Photography introduced me to the world of birds, mainly this picture taken about 18 months ago..

Noisy Minors (1)

Noisy minors at St Ives Village Green, (suburban) Sydney, Australia

Very agressive (they give the local cats hell), communal and highly adaptable. Very common, at the expense of smaller birds, in the suburbs.

I live in western Sydney and most of the photgraphs are taken in the region with an occasional photograph taken whilst on vacation.

If family duties take us anywhere there are likely to be birds I make sure I always have a camera with me.

I will leave you with one from yesterday morning.

Lorikeet eating apple

Again at St Ives - Seen during a walk after having cofee & croisaants for breakfast - ie family duties!

A local shopkeeper puts pieces of apple on top of a fence for the birds to feed on. It can get very busy as the Rainbow Lorikeets fly in for a feed. Very common birds in Sydney, especially during the summer.

Thanks for looking.

Richard

Hi Richard and WELCOME, am really looking forward to reading your blog entries :-)))
Find it just amazing that such an exotic looking bird as the Rainbow Lorikeet is a common bird!
and also lug the camera along when doing "duties"you never know what you see, huh? ;-)

A warm welcome to you, Richard! I hope you enjoy the birding experience as much as we do... The Rainbow Lorikeets are extremely beautiful, I'm surprised they aren't threatened by the 'Bird Trade'. Is there a law which protects them?

First post! :-) Welcome aboard Richard.

Pity Katja is away, she loves Rainbow lorikeets. She posted a story a while back about bumping into something, the first time she saw them in Oz. She couldn't believe her eyes. :-)

Thanks very much for the warm welcomes.
Charlie; my family are used to me carry a camera around with a long lens on it. My wife even took a couple of wild animal pics last vacation with her smmall camera.

Candy: From a newspaper report
The maximum penalty for wildlife smuggling is 10 years' jail, a $110,000 fine or both.
$110,000 will buy 33 around the world airline tickets.
