It's been years since I saw my last Robin.
A few weeks ago I met one those pretty fellows at the Botanical Gardens here in Cologne.
That brought to my mind that I had to find a European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) as Flickr Bird of the Week.
Browsing the GBT Pool I found this beautiful photo taken by Shane Jones.

Robin (by Shane Jones)

I asked him for more details about where and when the pic was taken.

''The photo was taken earlier this year in Ireland on a small island on Lough Corrib. Every year a few friends and I go there trout fishing in the spring. Each day we stop for lunch on an island called Flynn Island to have lunch and each year sees a dominant Robin ruling the roost, meaning of course he gets first shout at the sanwich scraps and offerings from the anglers. This shot was taken of this Robin begging for his lunch! It was taken using a Nikon D40 and a Nikon 70-300 lens.''

Thanx for the info and for the permission to use your lovely photo here.

As usual more information on wikipedia.org : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Robin

a truly lovely photo and one of my favourite birds; the Cape Robin-chats in my garden provide me with hours of entertainment AND they eat the snails!!
