Ok, so I was in need of some serious birding this passed weekend and decided that enough was enough and I made plans.  Initially I was thinking Marievale and Zaagkuil and those areas but decided instead to check some places that the GPS found instead.   Saturday entailed the Lonehill, Carlswald and Midrand Area.  At the park in Lonehill where there is a lovely dam we saw Yellow billed Ducks, Egyptian Geese with goslings, Wattled Plovers, Common Moorhens, White Breasted Comorants, Grey Herons and this lovely Black Headed Heron doing some housework:

Also saw this beautiful Red Knobbed Coot with her baby:

As I said previously in the Forum, we went to Witpoort and then on to the really well kept and lovely Beaulieu Bird Sanctuary, there we got Cattle Egret, Dabchick and White Faced Ducks.  However I personally feel that Beaulieu is more of a morning birding spot. On our way through Carlswald we got a lovely sighting of a Marsh Owl but it was just too quick for me to grab the camera.   Sunday was a quick jaunt to Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens to find some sunbirds. We did get some nices ones as well as other birds: Verreuax's eagles + chick, Cape Rock Thrush, Chinspot Batis, Cardinal Woodpecker, Amethyst, White-bellied, Greater double-collared Sunbirds, Black Crowned Tchagra, Bokmakierie, Kurrichane Thrush, Bar-throated Aapalis, Southern Boubou (who was calling beautifully).;Sunday's photos didn't come out at all well. Really don't know what happened there.

Thanks Charlie and Katja... it actually was a very refreshing bird outing... i think i was pleasantly surprised by the amount and variation of birds around my area... i feel swallowed up by concrete but the weekend opened my eyes a lil to what is just around the corner..
