AnnouncementOur Mission and Values at GBT...
Here at GBT we hope to foster an interest in all things birding, and in so doing, also create a deep and abiding respect for our natural environment. We do so without taking ourselves too serioulsy, but we do take the state of our environment very seriously. We share our knowledge and our passion for all things birding willingly and enthusiastically.

Excitement is in the Air!I love this time of the year as far as birding is concerned. Insects are starting to become alive once again and everywhere one can see birds hawking insects, especially around dusk. One also just never knows what to expect. These past 2 weekends I recorded nice migrants such as Lesser Striped Swallow, Red-breasted Swallow and Ruff. It is also normally at this time of the year when something special might pop up in the Gauteng area. Laine and Dirk's Bird Photos - created with Bird Photo Organizer - v3.0! Re: Excitement is in the Air!A family of Green Woodhoopoes is busy moving into our one nesting log, much to the consternation of the resident Black collared Barbets. At the moment there's a ding-dong battle going on, with Cape Glossies giving alarm calls, and a lot of fluttering and cackling and chorteling from other assorted birds coming to watch the "chick" fight. Re: Excitement is in the Air!I'll talk to the "boss", see what we can do. Of course they hate my cat, and the feeling is mutual, she drags her fat belly up the tree, and sits there miaauing at them, while they swear at her. (She hasn't managed to catch a bird for about 3 years, everytime she runs she gets a speed wobble, it's hilarious to watch).
