Re: Karoo, Hex River Valley and Garden Route Birding

Especially to a place you have never been to!

I must admit, I am not looking forward to the drive to Bloemfontein tomorrow morning. But driving through the Karoo is one of the best experiences. I love the Karoo!

I am holding thumbs for getting a few of those Karoo specials. I don't think it is going to be easy but hey, 1 or 2 Karoo lifers to get me past 550 will do the trick very nicely, thank you very much!

Can't wait to see the Hex river Valley. I have never even been close to that part of our beautiful country.

Re: Karoo, Hex River Valley and Garden Route Birding

lollol

My dad drove up here all by himself and he had to go through some horrendous conditions with plenty of rain. I did not want him to drive all the way back there all alone again.

And besides that... I can do very nicely with a break now... especially after the royal time I had at work lately.

Re: Karoo, Hex River Valley and Garden Route Birding

The closest I've been to that part is Beaufort West and Cape Town. And then traveling along the N2 to George from Cape Town. I have never been to place like Montagu, Worcester and Robertson.

Re: Karoo, Hex River Valley and Garden Route Birding

hello from a very hot hex river valley! despite the 41deg temperature it turned out to be a great birding day. we started out early in the karoo np and soon had super views of rufous-cheeked warbler, karoo long-billed lark(lifer), grey-backed cisticola, karoo chat(lifer), white-throated canary, bradfield's lark(lifer, although treated as subspecies of sabota lark by some), dusky sunbird(lifer) and cape bunting. along the n1 highway southern pale chanting goshawk, lesser kestrel, greater kestrel snd steppe buzzard were seen in good numbers! 1 open-billed stork near kroonstad also caused for some excitement!
